About Judith Hann

Judith Hann speaks on topics including things such as healthy eating, the science of ageing, renewable energy systems, business and the science behind different personality types. Undoubtably a woman of many talents, Judith can give keynote talks on a vast range of topics and has even chaired major conferences not only in the UK but around the world.

Biography

Judith Hann graduated from Durham University with a degree in Zoology.  Following this, she trained as a newspaper journalist and has since won the Glaxo Award for Science Writing on two occasions.  She has written books on subjects including science, childcare, nutrition, cooking and healthy lifestyles. Her publication, ‘How Science Works’, has become an international bestseller, having been translated into over twenty languages and selling over one million copies worldwide.

She regularly chairs conferences for major companies both in the UK and internationally, as well as for government departments and the European Commission. Previously, the Government appointed her to sit on the A.E.B.C., the Agriculture and Environment Biotechnology Commission. This has been set up to give advice on future scientific developments in agriculture, including the genetic modification of crops and farm animals.

With her husband, the television news specialist John Exelby, Judith runs a media training and presentation skills centre where they teach people how to make the most of themselves and companies how to make the most of the media. Their studio is in a listed barn on their very beautiful Cotswold farm.

Judith is a self-confessed herb fanatic. She has planted a garden with over 150 different types of edible herbs at her home in the Cotswolds. She was President of the Herb Society and cooked for the renowned Rick Stein on his Food Heroes series. She has made other TV programmes on food as well as written two books on the subject.

Having worked for the Royal Society for 12 years, Judith trained hundreds of the world’s leading scientists on how to explain their work in an exciting and, crucially, accessible way to the public. She also runs a media training and communications skills company with her husband, teaching individuals how to make the most of themselves, and companies how to make the most of the media.

Durham University awarded Judith Hann an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law for what the citation described as her “outstanding contribution to science journalism”.
