Pam Rhodes

Pam Rhodes is an experienced presenter, she has worked on a wide variety of programmes from anchoring the live evening news for Anglia Television, to network holiday and travel programmes, her own daily interview series on Lifestyle Television, Radio 2, and other long-term commitments for London Weekend, Thames and BFBS Television. She has also presented a number of special series and programmes for the BBC. In addition, Pam has worked extensively in the business world, providing Communication Skills Training, and presenting internal corporate programmes, live conferences, and world-wide satellite link-up discussions. She is often asked to give after dinner speeches, where she shares some of her experiences in television in a humorous, often moving, and always entertaining way. Pam also comperes large orchestral and musical evenings at symphony halls around the country.

Broadcast credits

Pam has a wide range of broadcast credits to her name. These include: ‘Songs of Praise’ – main presenter for more than ten years of this popular BBC1 prime-time series, interviewing and compering both recorded and live programmes from all over the world, often involving very sensitive or difficult interviews. She has also presented several special six-week series, such as the open-air ‘Summer Praise’ and ‘Village Praise’. ‘Pam Rhodes Presents’ – independently produced programmes transmitted in the ‘Songs of Praise’ slot several times throughout the year, when Pam talks in depth to such people as Dr Cristiaan Barnard (in Cape Town), Pat Boone (in Hollywood and Nashville), and James Galway (in Switzerland and Dublin).  Pam has done various BBC1 live presentations including Sunday morning programmes, Summer Sunday, Advent and Lent series, Christmas and Easter Morning programmes, and special sporting events like the London Marathon. Also the main presenter of one of the most complicated live satellite link-up programme ever, when forces’ families in Aldershot and Fallingbostel in Germany, were able to sing carols simultaneously on Christmas Eve with troops in the Gulf. ‘Help Yourself’ – writer and presenter of six programmes, looking at what counselling can offer. Transmitted on BBC1 as part of Daytime Television, it attracted 20,000 enquiries after each programme, and doubled its ratings by the end of its run.

For three years Pam had her own ten-minute interview show called ‘Teabreak’, each weekday afternoon, designed to appeal to women, and covering social, family, financial, medical and practical subjects in an informative and entertaining way. Pam also presented several “specials” for Lifestyle, including a Christmas series with David Hamilton and five programmes made about the Sami people in Swedish Lapland.
Anglia Television – Pam based at Anglia for about 12 years, firstly as the anchor person on the live evening news programme, About Anglia, for about six years; and later, as co-presenter for five years, of the travel and leisure series ‘Anything Goes’, produced for network ITV.

Pam’s Novels

In October 1996, when Pam’s first novel, ‘With Hearts and Hymns and Voices’, was published, it quickly became the best-selling Christian book in the country. Since then she has established herself as a prolific mainstream author for the major publishing house, Hodder and Stoughton, with ‘The Trespassers’ published in October 1998, and ‘Whispers’ a year later in October 1999. Lion Publishing have published ‘Living and Loved’, a photographic book of the country’s favourite churches for the Millennium.
