About Karen Hockney
Karen Hockney has interviewed some of the biggest names in showbiz throughout her career, including Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy. She has also worked for corporate clients including Liberty, Disney, the BBC, ITV, Five, Talkback Thames and Sky and was asked to give media training to the final live show contestants in the first series of ‘The X Factor.’
Karen Hockney cut her teeth working with Piers Morgan at ‘The Sun’ and her freelance clients included The Times, You Magazine, Red, The Evening Standard, The Daily Mail, Radio Times, Heat, Hello, The Telegraph and The Good Spa Guide. Karen has had lunch with Nelson Mandela in Cape Town and shared a limo with the Desperate Housewives in Hollywood. Memorable interviewees include Kate Winslet, Danny DeVito, Ray Winstone, Damian Lewis, Dennis Hopper, Courteney Cox, Sean Bean, Miranda Hart, Amanda Holden, Westlife, The Jonas Brothers, Elle Macpherson, Julie Walters, Sir Philip Green, Geena Davis and Sigourney Weaver. She’s dodged verbal bullets from Sir Alan Sugar, Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay, swapped music tips with Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne, raced in the US Bull Run and interviewed street kids targeted by death squads in Colombia.
In 2008, she swapped London for the Cote d’Azur and has covered the Cannes Film Festival and the Monte Carlo TV Festival as well as reporting from film and TV location shoots around the world. Her move into health journalism was prompted by a breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 44. As a vegetarian, marathon running health and fitness freak who had never even smoked a cigarette, Karen researched her illness intensively. She adopted an alkaline diet and ran and skied her way through chemotherapy, amazing her doctors with her energetic recovery. She turned the experience into the critically acclaimed memoir ‘Breathing Out’, in the hope of helping, encouraging and educating other cancer sufferers to fight back through nutrition and exercise. Breathing Out was endorsed by Elle Macpherson and Amanda Holden and received five-star reviews in Hello, Closer and Nursing Standard. She has written first person articles and been interviewed by The Times, You Magazine, Psychologies and Talk Radio Europe about her health.
Karen played a part in the launch of Elle Macpherson’s super greens supplement ‘The Super Elixir’ by introducing Elle to her nutritionist Dr Simone Laubscher. She has spoken publicly at events including the One Woman Workforce: Talking Without Devices evening in Kensington, a Conservative women’s luncheon in Surrey, Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Hammersmith as well as addressing a leading oncology conference for the Cote d’Azur region in Cannes. She has had meetings with the Department of Health’s Chief Cancer Officer and Breast Cancer Now’s Public Information Director to talk about the importance of nutrition during and beyond a cancer diagnosis.
