The Speakers Agency Marks 'Wear a Hat Day' for Brain Tumour Research
Why We’re Wearing Hats Today: Our Fight Against Brain Tumours
At The Speakers Agency, our office is usually a whirlwind of activity, booking keynote speakers, managing calendars, and connecting with clients. But today, we have taken a moment to mark ‘Wear a Hat Day’ for Brain Tumour Research.
‘Wear a Hat Day’ is a national campaign to support Brain Tumour Research. For many, it’s a fun way to raise a bit of money. But for us at The Speakers Agency, it’s deeply personal.
A Cause Close to Home
The statistics surrounding brain tumours are startling. In the last two years, two members of our team have been directly impacted by this devastating disease. Managing Director Holly lost her father-in-law, Tom, to a glioblastoma. Less than 12 months after this, Account Manager Harriet lost her brother, aged just 22, to the very same devastating disease.
When a small team like ours goes through these kinds of losses, it stays with us. We’ve seen firsthand the speed at which these tumours take lives and the holes they leave behind in families.
The Funding Gap
One of the most frustrating aspects of this cause is the lack of awareness regarding research. Did you know that brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40?
Despite this, they historically receive a disproportionately small amount of national cancer research funding. Without investment, we cannot find a cure. Without a cure, families like Holly’s and Harriet’s will continue to face these unthinkable losses.
How We Are Helping
By participating in #WearAHatDay, we are aiming to do two things:
- Raise Awareness: By sharing our story, we hope to shine a light on the urgent need for more research funding.
- Raise Funds: Every pound raised goes directly to Brain Tumour Research to help fund the sustainable network of research centres the UK desperately needs.
Join Us
We represent speakers who inspire, lead, and change the world. Today, we want to use our own platform to inspire a small change. Whether it’s donating the price of a coffee or simply sharing this post to spread the word, every bit of support helps.
