Dr Rosemary Leonard’s work as a consultant to national television and newspapers makes her one of the country’s best-known doctors. She is the regular doctor on the 'Breakfast' programme on BBC 1, and also writes for 'The Daily Express' and 'Sunday Express Magazine'. She is the medical editor and regular feature writer for Woman and Home magazine, and writes a weekly column for femail.co.uk. Rosemary was awarded an MBE. for her services to healthcare in the New Year’s Honour List, 2004.
As a regular broadcaster, Rosemary’s depth of knowledge and ability to put across complex matters without relapsing into medical jargon have led her to do a wide variety of television and radio work. She has featured on the news output of the BBC, both on TV and radio, and has also been the regular medical expert on 'Open House', and the evening news on Five TV. She co-presented 'Fighting with the Eastenders', and 'Kick the Habit' on BBC1, has co-presented 'Why Me?' and 'Call the Doctor' on the Living Channel, and has done regular live phone-ins on Talk Radio.
She has more than 10 years experience working on the national press, first at 'The Sun', then 'The Daily Mail', and is used to providing instant expert comments on news stories and matters of medical interest. Rosemary is still very much a practicing doctor, working as a three quarter time GP partner in a busy practice in South London, where she has a special interest in women’s health. She is also the GP representative on the Committee on Safety of Medicines, the national body that licenses all medicines in the UK. In view of her extensive experience, she is often asked to present medical corporate videos, and take part in PR activities for drug companies and suchlike.
Rosemary trained in medicine at Cambridge University and St Thomas Hospital Medical School. She lives with her 2 sons, and enjoys gardening, skiing, hiking, and sailing.
